Congratulations to ALL the 95 contestants for completing the 2025 NOMTA Sonata Competition! With numerous preparation work and eight hours on the competition day, we thank each of you for your participation, time, and energy. It brought us love and joys!

Masterclass with Kevin Chance

We were so pleased to have Dr. Kevin Chance in New Orleans today. Dr. Chance gave a presentation on his unique approach to teaching Classical style—The Three C’s of Classicism. The three C’s stand for Clarity, Contrast, and Continuity. At the end of the lecture, Dr. Chance selflessly shared his invaluable insight on the pedagogical order of studying sonatina and sonata repertoire, spanning from the beginning level to the advanced.
In addition, four of our students had the great fortune to have guidance from Dr. Chance. His vivid demonstration and professional knowledge encouraged our students. The masterclasses covered balance in Mozart, voicing in Scriabin, rubato and pedaling in Debussy.
At the end of the day, some of the NOMTA board members had a pleasant lunch with Kevin.
